The exhibition PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES of Paul Morrissey introduce to us by images a short period of his life between 1965 to 1970. From New-York to Cannes, St Tropez and Positano, with Warhol, Nico, Lou Reed, Viva, the Velvet Underground, the observer is immersed in the Paul Morrissey's intimist universe seen by him-self with his Canon Dial camera used as a cinema camera capturing images sequences.

L’exposition PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES de Paul Morrissey, nous fait découvrir en image une période de sa vie allant de 1965 à 1970. De New-York à Cannes, St-Tropez et Positano, en présence de Warhol, Nico, Lou Reed, Viva, le Velvet Underground, le spectateur se trouve immergé dans l'univers intime de Paul Morrissey tel que, vu par lui-même grâce à son appareil Canon Dial utilisé comme une caméra capturant des séquences d'images.


 Born in New York City in 1938, Paul Morrissey studied literature at Fordham University. In the early 1960’s, following a stint in the Army and jobs in insurance and as a social worker, he began directing short independent films. In 1965, he was introduced to Andy Warhol, who asked him to contribute ideas and bring new direction to the film experiments he had been recently begun presenting--others had been suggesting, and in a very limited sense, directing these early experiments, but they remained in a static, relatively primitive state. From then on, Morrissey not only directed all of the films but signed a management contract with Warhol putting him in charge of all operations at the Warhol studio with the exception of the sales of artwork. It was Morrissey’s idea that Warhol’s celebrity name be used to promote a rock n’ roll group; to that end, he discovered the Velvet Underground, added Nico to the band and signed them all to a management contract. While administering the very successful early years of the group, he continued to add story ideas, casting, cinematography and direction to all of the film experiments that Warhol presented from “My Hustler” (1965) and “Chelsea Girls” (1966) through “Imitation of Christ” (1967) and “Bike Boy” (1967); Morrissey acted as the films’ distributor as well. After “Lonesome Cowboys” (1967), which was written, produced and directed by Morrissey from start to finish, he assumed total control of all subsequent films presented by Andy Warhol--from the arthouse/cult classics “Flesh” (1968), “Trash” (1970) and “Heat” (1972)

Etudiant en littérature à l’université de Fordham, Paul Morrissey commence à réaliser ses premiers courts métrages indépendants dès le début des années soixante.En 1965, Paul Morrissey a été présenté à Andy Warhol qui lui a demandé de contribuer à de nouvelles idées pour la direction de « film expériences » dont il avait récemment commencé la présentation.
Dès lors, Morrissey signe un contrat de gestion avec Warhol qui lui confie la responsabilité de toutes les opérations de son studio, à l'exception des ventes d'oeuvres d'art. Morrissey commence par avoir l’idée d’utiliser le nom de Warhol pour promouvoir un groupe de rock n’ roll ; découvre le Velvet Underground, à qui se joint Nico. Tout en étant administrateur de la réussite initiale du groupe, il continue à apporter des idées d’articles, de la cinématographie et de la direction de l’ensemble des « film expériences » que Warhol présente. De «My Hustler" (1965) et "Chelsea Girls" (1966) à "Imitation de Jésus-Christ "(1967) et" Bike Boy "(1967), Morrissey agi comme distributeur. . Après "Lonesome Cow-boys" (1967), entièrement écrit, réalisé et produit par Morrissey, ce dernier prend le plein contrôle de tous les films présentés par Andy Warhol, qu’il s’agisse de « Flesh » (1968), « Trash » (1970) et « Heat » (1972). Morrissey aura ainsi crée la trilogie underground la plus célèbre de l'histoire du cinéma.
